In Memoriam

Autumn Anderson, beloved wife of Don, mother of Brent, Mark and Craig died on Wednesday, February 14, 2012.  A service celebrating the life of Autumn was held on Saturday, February 18th in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER

Good Food and Good Fun!  On Tuesday, February 21st at 6:00 p.m. in the George Connolly Hall, come and enjoy fabulous pancakes made by our own Men’s Fellowship Group.  Cost:  Adults $5.00, Children (10 & under) $3.00, Family $13.00 max.  Tickets go on sale February 5th.  All are warmly welcome to this community event.  If you have any questions, contact Brian Jeffs 416-447-9762.

Following the pancake supper, there will be an Imposition of Ashes Service in the sanctuary at 7:00 p.m.  This service marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day period (not including Sundays) leading up to Easter.

LOAVES AND FISHES – END OF THE MONTH LUNCH

The Loaves and Fishes end of the month lunch is on Sunday, February 26th.  Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  Please call Lois Keir @ 416-444-0877 or Muriel Voskuil @ 416-447-2591 by February 23rd for tickets.  We don’t like to turn people away, but we need numbers for shopping.  Come and enjoy delicious food and friendly conversation!

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY

The Rev. Dr. Randy Naylor will lead Five Bible Studies -  ‘Destination:  The Cross’, on the lectionary gospel readings for Lent.  The series will begin on Friday, March 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Lounge and will continue through March 9, 16, 23 and 30.  Coffee available from 10:45 a.m.  All welcome!

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER 2012

The World Day of Prayer service this year will be held at Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church, 1737 Lawrence Avenue East, on Friday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m.  For further information please call Rita Kent @ 416-449-4498.  There will be refreshments and fellowship following the service.

THE UNITED CHURCH OBSERVER – Subscription Renewal

If you are not receiving the United Church Observer magazine but would like to subscribe, please advise the church office.  A contribution of $20.00 towards the group rate subscription price is required.

OUT-OF-THE-COLD PROGRAM

From November through April, Eastminster United Church opens its doors each Friday to people seeking shelter for the night. The visitors are fed, accommodated overnight and offered showers, clothing and friendship. We can help with donations of warm winter clothing, disposable razors and gently used towels. Please leave contributions in the Out-of-the-Cold Box in the main lobby. For further information you may contact Brian and Carol Jeffs @ 416-447-9762.

EVA’S PLACE

Eva’s place is a shelter for teens. Item’s needed for young people: shampoo / conditioners, soaps, deodorants, tooth brushes, tooth paste, other personal hygiene items, razors, shaving cream, combs, hair brushes, underwear and socks.

RAYOAK FOOD BANK

Many in our congregation have donated to the Rayoak Food bank and we are grateful for your on-going assistance.  Specific foods are scheduled for donation during the month to ensure the Food Bank has a variety for distribution.
